Educating Pupils on the Security Industry

On Friday 1st March, Axis Security and Commercial Manager, Melanie Wood, participated in a ‘whole school career fair’ at Cansfield High School, Ashton, In Makerfield, as part of National Careers Week. It was a unique opportunity to engage with the pupils and open their eyes and minds to different career possibilities. There where 37 exhibitors including universities, apprenticeship providers and other employers including representatives from a wide range of industries.

The students had done some research prior to the event and came armed with questions for us to answer to give them better insight as to what opportunities were on offer in the security industry and what qualifications and routes were available.

The children were very enthusiastic and we had some interesting conversations, with several of the pupils having a go at using correct radio etiquette to communicate over the digital radios.

Dr Geoff Baker,Headteacher, Cansfield High School commented:

"We had over 30 companies or educational providers present at the event and I have been inundated by students since, who have told me that it made them give serious consideration to what they are going to do when they leave school. From the feedback I received, our students particularly appreciated the honest feedback from every individual who presented about what they did when they left school, how they ended up here and the best things (and worst things) about their job."
